Sculpture has a long and famous tradition at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Among the teachers of sculpture were Josef Václav Myslbek, Josef Mařatka, Ladislav Šaloun, Stanislav Sucharda, Otto Gutfreund, Bohumil Kafka, or the post-war sculptor Josef Wágner, whose students influenced the development of the Czech art in the 60ties.

In the new era after 1989, the school had to get rid of the rigidity typical for the period of normalization, which affected mainly sculpture. Our students and teachers should be independent personalities who know or feel what they wish to communicate to the world. In a mutual dialogue between students and teachers we want to enhance this searching process with knowledge and skills which make the work easier and more efficient. Therefore we enroll students who have already attempted to express their ideas and have already acquired some of the necessary skills, such as drawing, painting, modeling and other techniques.
We use all available techniques, both new and traditional. For work with stone and wood we have 3 studios - one within the building of Academy of Arts, architecture and Painting in the Jan Palach's Square, special studio of difirent techniqe at Karlin and another one with a garden in Střešovice.
